After signing to the American office of major indie label, Century Media last year, this resolutely British quintet has been as busy on both sides of the Atlantic. After a low-key release in 2010, however, TesseracT are hoping to bring their melodic djent sound to as many people as possible with their debut album, One. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s been worth the wait.

It was one of the most hotly-anticipated metal gigs of 2011 so far. Over the past couple of years, Maryland metallers Periphery have increased the popularity of Djent – the genre of jarring, one-significant-chorded tech metal that Meshuggah created a quarter of a century ago. British djent stars, TesseracT are signed to the US arm of Century Media and Monuments are being talked about as one of the next big things. Of course we were there!

2008 into 2009: TesseracT

Metallers are either seen as meatheads who crush ‘stuff’ or as ultra-intelligent geeks, prone to pre-meditated killing sprees. TesseracT are closer to the latter with their thinking man’s metal. We talked to bassist, Mos about 2008.

What was your highlight of 2008?
Headlining the Scuzz stage at this years Bloodstock and playing the Caos Emergente festival in Portugal!

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
I lost half a tooth eating some Ice Cream in Belgo – kids be careful what you put in your mouth, still I was relieved to find out it was my tooth I found in my ice cream and not some randoms, can you imagine that!
