Reading & Leeds Festival 2013 Thrash Hits

With the August Bank Holiday weekend rapidly approaching, Reading & Leeds Festivals are once again upon us. As with every year, Reading & Leeds have a bit fat dollop of heaviness in among the landfill indie, so for this week’s Sunday Slaylist we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of the hardest and heaviest from their 2013 line-ups.

Sunday Slaylist: Hevy Festival 2012

July 29th, 2012

Hevy Festival 2012 Thrash Hits

We were half tempted to make a sports-themed Slaylist this week – what with the Olympics kicking off in our home city of London and all that – but then we realised that other than ‘Running Free’ and a handful of other tracks, we’d really be scraping the barrel when it came to coming up with valid tracks for it. So instead we fell back on an old favourite: the festival Slaylist. Given that Hevy Festival 2012 is a mere five days away, it was the obvious candidate.

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

This week’s podcast has Tom Doyle joinging Hugh back in the Thrash Hits studio, and this week they’re taking a long hard look at the line-up for Hevy Festival 2012. As the UK’s up-and-coming hardcore, punk and rock festival prepares for its fourth year, we’re looking at the headliners, our top picks from lower down the bill, the unusual layout for this year’s festival, as well as baselessly speculating on the potential this young festival upstart has for the future. Oh, and mouthing off about a couple of bands. Y’know – the usual.

Festival Republic have tonight officially confirmed the first batch of 41 names playing their flagship festivals – Reading & Leeds Festivals. Although their arguably the UK’s biggest festivals taking place in 2012 (since Glastonbury is taking a year off), admittedly most of these names will be of little or no interest to the majority of our readers here at Thrash Hits, but there are a few heavier highlights in among the indie-fodder.

The Great Escape 2011: see some good bands in Brighton this weekend

May 11th, 2011

It’s time for The Great Escape 2011 so we’re off to Brighton for a few days to drink beer and get a dry face and fuzzy ears from watching bands while standing near to a large, salty body of water.

Because TGE is a big thing, there’s not very much metal going on so we thought we’d point out the token gigs of heaviness for you and list all the bands that we think are noteworthy PLUS when and where they’re playing.

There is nothing here that resembles a Turisas song.

Future Hits 033: Shotgun Riot

May 26th, 2009

London hardcore troupe, Shotgun Riot have been making waves on the underground scene over the past few months so we decided to catch up with guitarist Tom Bauer to see what everyone’s about.

From: Watford, UK
Sounds like: Every Time I Die, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster

Thrash Hits verdict: They might sound more like they’re from the Deep South of America rather than the English Home Counties but let that deter you not. When the riffs are as tights as the ones that Shotgun Riot are making, it doesn’t matter what country the band is from.
