You may know about our love/obsession with most things Icelandic so it may not be a surprise to see a new band from Reykjavik featured here. This is MUCK, they play intelligent, discordant hardcore and it’s fantastic.

When we went to Download Festival 2014, we had planned on asking all the bands what they would do if Linkin Park ratted them out to the cops (not sure what we’re talking about? Here’s a link to Sublime With Rome’s version of what happened when they played a festival with Chester Bennington and co at a festival in the USA). However, we got distracted by drinking booze and watching bands and only did a handful. The best of our videos – by far – was when we caught up with our old friends CJ McMahon and Lee Stanton from mighty Australian deathcore monsters Thy Art Is Murder what they would do if Linkin Park grassed them up to the fuzz.

It’s nice seeing a band comprised of musicians that you have incredible respect for but it’s bittersweet when it’s a band that, for a variety of reasons, not many people will ever get the chance to see. About 18 months ago we posted about Valient Himself’s Rocknowledgy – the quite frankly brilliant music podcast from the Valient Thorr frontman. Rocknowledgy is a (now) monthly show where Valient Himself takes a John Peel-esque approach to music, playing music from across the spectrum – you’re as likely to hear old soul jams on an episode as you are hardcore punk. We bloody love it – and that’s why we’re sponsoring Rocknowledgy for the next 12 months.

The Paradigm Shift

Brian ‘Head’ Welch is back but David Silvera isn’t allowed back. It’s not an experiment in dubstep metal. That’s the news in terms of Korn’s 11th album, The Paradigm Shift. The sub-plot is that Jonathan Davis was struggling to get off his meds whilst writing the album so there’s the saga concerning this particular 42-year-old millionaire.

It’s been a while since we nominated a podcast for a Sunday Slaylist, rather than just slapping together something on Spotify that’s vaguely connected to the week’s news. So this week, we’re delving back into the world of musician-published podcasts, and taking a look at the sublime and devastating funny Overnight Drive.
