Earlier this week, 25 year veteran death metal band Malevolent Creation parted ways with their drummer, Gus Rios. He was their eighth drummer, so why is this news? Well, the fact that confirmed this separation by some old-fashioned Facebook homophobia. It prompted us to ask our man Tomas Doyle to take aim and unload with both barrels on a topic that’s been bugging us all for a long time now. Take it away, Tomas…

Clive Burr, former drummer with heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, died in his sleep earlier this week on Tuesday March 12, 2013. He was 56 years old. Although he was fired from the band in 1982, Bur remained friends with his former bandmates, who were longtime supporters Clive Aid, the charity Burr was a patron of which raised funds and awareness for cancer and multiple sclerosis (of which Burr himself suffered) causes around the world. It’s in recognition of his role in the history of one of the world’s biggest metal fans that we’ve put together this week’s Sunday Slaylist as a tribute to Clive Burr.

Well, this another one of those news pieces where the title pretty much says it all. Black Sabbath – i.e., Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler – have released a statement in response to the large statement made by Bill Ward yesterday, when he ruled himself out of the Black Sabbath reunion over contract issues.
And in contrast to Ward’s piece, the statement from the three other founder members of Black Sabbath is…well….remarkably short.

Remember how Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater last September? Seven and a half months later, the New York prog metallers still haven’t replaced the drumming co-founder so have decided that they’d document the auditions and dramatise them into some weird reality online gameshow. This is the coolest thing ever. Right?!

It’s crappy news but drummer Mike ‘Ratboy’ Novak has left Every Time I Die ahead of the Buffalo hardcore crew releasing their fifth studio album, New Junk Aesthetic on 14 September 2009. We can’t wait for it.

With great pride and excitement I announce the addition of Ilan Rubin to the lineup beginning next year. I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away – the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year.
