Sunday Slaylist: Let’s listen to some Viking Metal now that we’ve survived Ragnarok

February 23rd, 2014

Amon Amarth by Gary Wolstenholme Thrash Hits

Didn’t you hear? We all just survived Ragnarok. The latest instalment in the long line of ancient-cultures-predicting-the-end-of-the-world trend passed everyone by on Saturday night, and at no point did Fenrir eat the world, or Odin get into an almighty ruck with the Midgard Serpent. Ho hum.

And what better way to celebrate this ridiculous non-event than by listening to a load of Viking Metal? EXACTLY.

Are Turmion Kätilöt the most mental band we’ve ever seen?

March 15th, 2011

In case you’ve not heard of them, Turmion Kätilöt are a Finnish (there’s a surprise) band that fuse extreme metal, industrial and cheesy Eurodance. Imagine 2 Unlimited, Rammstein and Finntroll getting together for a drunken party. In bondage gear or less. And yes, that does sound fucking awful. If you think that’s bad, wait until you see their latest (NSFW) video after the jump.

Folk metal: how divisive it has been. There are those would rather listen to the first Bring Me The Horizon record played backwards on out-of-tune guitars, than put on anything recorded by the violin-carrying brigade. Well, to all of those who fall into the former category, may I say the following:

Would you kindly crawl out from your own arse, have a listen to Finntroll’s latest album, Nifelvind, and learn to have some fun? As fun is what Finntroll are all about.
