Of the big four metal bands of the modern era (Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Five Finger Death Punch, and Trivium) it is Trivium who are the most worthy. They don’t have the cheesy emptiness of the Welshmen, they’ve stopped ripping off Metallica quite as blatantly as Avenged Sevenfold are doing now and they’re not political knuckle-draggers like Five Finger Death Punch.

Basically, as fashionable as it is to suggest that none of them are metal enough to be spoken of in the same breath as the likes of Metallica and Pantera, Trivium, by simply being a bunch of metallers playing metal for metallers, have got the least to dislike about them. By a long way.

Jared Leto’s Wrongs 009: Asking his fans to get 30 Seconds To Mars tattoos

July 25th, 2013

jared leto 30 seconds to mars tattoos

This one isn’t a joke. It isn’t even funny. It’s fucking irresponsible and disgusting. Prepare for your stomach to turn and your blood to boil. It makes you wonder how sinister The Bed Competition actually was.

Jared Leto, via his abomination of a band, has asked his fans to GET A TATTOO OF LYRICS FROM ONE OF THEIR CRAPPY SONGS. All in the name of a new lyric video for ‘Do or Die’.

Fair enough, you’ve got to be a fucking moron to enjoy 30 Seconds To Mars, but children generally are. No dice, Jared. No fucking dice.

Maintaining the fine-tradition of Literal Video Treatments: Five Finger Death Punch have a new promo out

We’ve previously joshed Five Finger Death Punch about their tremendously literal music videos, and we know that plenty of bands do similar things, but there’s something about 5FDP’s dedication to really relentlessly hammering their already thunderously-unsubtle point home with a nuance-free music video that gets us right in the heart, every time.

Oh look, everyone! Five Finger Death Punch have got a new video out! For their track, ‘Remember Everything’! I wonder how it’s turned out?

Download Festival have announced a veritable swathe of additional acts that will be gracing their festival at Donington Park this Summer. There’s even a fair few heavyweights in this announcement, including Megadeth, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, Slash, and Thrash Hits’ personal favourite purveyors of intellectual metal, Five Finger Death Punch.

Thrash Hits’ WORST album of 2011

2011 albums of year WORST thrash hits

It’s been an excellent year for great albums but it’s also been a hilarious year for pretty much one particular reason. Anyone who likes and follows heavy metal also follows and (probably) likes Metallica. Lulu happened and when the first reaction was puzzlement, the second reaction was laughter and the third reaction was anger, we were left confused, cold and abused in the corner. Not everyone thought Lulu was the worst album of 2011, but most of us did.

A to Z of the Noughties: Avenged Sevenfold to Iron Maiden

November 5th, 2009

Where were you on the night before the dawn of the New Millennium? Jon Kerr was getting a pit going in Jilly’s Rockworld, Manchester. We’ve asked him to summarise the ten years since then in all things metal in a handy A to Z

Avenged Sevenfold
Not just any Californian metalcore outfit, this lot. A7X have produced a wide range of sounds across their four albums and have developed a global fanbase. From the release of debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet to appearing between NIN and Metallica at the UK leg of the Sonisphere Festival, it has been Avenged Sevenfold’s decade.

Photos + Live: Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir, Unearth & Five Finger Death Punch @ London Brixton Academy – 14 February 2009

There’s a lot we could say about the Defenders of the Faith show in Brixton. We could mention Five Finger Death Punch’s use of nu-metal poses to start a mosh pit before 7pm. Or how Unearth rattle through more chest-thumping riffs in a 30 minute set than some bands do in their entire careers. Or maybe how Dimmu Borgir should really start crediting their smoke machine as the seventh member of the band. But really, Sunday night in Brixton was all about one band – Lamb of God.

Win a Spinefarm Records goody bag!

We just got back from Finland where the annual Spinefeast At Sea was taking place. You won’t believe how bad our hangovers are. Still. (Until you see them on the three-part video we’ve made, of course).

Most importantly, we nicked a whole load of swag from the Spinefarm Records HQ while we were in snowy Finland. We’ve stuck a bunch of CDs, a heavy metal (plastic) frisbee, a Rotten Sound t-shirt and some signed posters in a goody bag and YOU could win it. That frisbee will be fun in a few months.
