Is there anything better than a Thrash Hits Festival Splash Page? Yeah, loads of things but you won’t find the best online festival coverage on any of them. You’ll find that right here.
All our work from Sonisphere Festival 2011 is going be linked to from this page (eventually), so give it a bookmark or just don’t close it, because it’s all you’re going to need. Individual band coverage (interviews, photos, setlists and some tiny reviews), rumours, drinking games, stage times, dodgy photos of as many sexy ladies in various states of safe-for-work undress as we can legitimately get away with? It’s all here.
So, following Iron Maiden’s all-but-announced confirmation that they’re headlining at Sonisphere 2010, we thought we’d just let slip we’ve heard from a Very Reliable Source that Rammstein will be the other headliner at Knebworth next summer. Considering both names have been touted for months, it’s hardly a big scoop, but what is interesting are some of the other names and nuggets of gossip our sources have given us.
After making our first ever splash page at Download Festival 2009, we thought we’d do another with the inaugural Sonisphere Festival 2009. We’re here at Knebworth for two days and we’re going to be interviewing, photographing and generally just looking at bands all weekend. We’ll make stuff too. Come and look at it all.
Yep, we’ll be updating this all weekend with little nuggets of unsubstantiated chitter chatter from backstage and speculative banter from out front. Whatever we see or hear that not everybody knows yet (or not everybody is meant to know) will be right here on this page.
Everyone with their ears to the ground seems to be talking about You Me At Six at the moment. Salvadore Fernandez goes to the source and has a chat to 17-year-old singer Josh Franceshi about why.
Sometimes the facts speak for themselves. You Me At Six have sold every ticket (over 9000) for their 21-date June/July headline tour. They haven’t released their debut album yet. They only just signed a record deal with the up-and-coming Leeds-based Slam Dunk Records. They’re hot property.
They have supported big hitters such as New Found Glory, The Audition and Angels & Airwaves in 2008 as well as repeatedly touring the UK and, clearly, their hard work is paying dividends but they’re still keen to develop their careers.
“There have been a few shows that sold out so fast,” Josh says. “But we wanted to keep these shows intimate and chilled instead of upgrading them.”
This tour in particular has had the objective of promoting their latest single, ‘Gossip’. The video to which has apparently gained some unwanted criticism from fans for being a slightly lower budget production than what they’re used to.

“The song’s about a house party and about provocative people,” explains Josh. “We just wanted as many of our friends to have a party and film it with a handheld camera. It’s not about it looking really good; it’s about our friends filming us as we play.”
Having shared a stage with bands that easily fit into the pop-punk or emo pigeonhole, it’s not a surprise that YM@6 – completed by bassist Matt (19), guitarists Max and Chris (both 18) and drummer Dan (19) – are rightly drawing comparisons with the likes of Fall Out Boy and early Panic At The Disco.
The as-yet-untitled album will be released in October in the fashionable and highly practical DIY manner that bands such as Enter Shikari and now Funeral For A Friend have gone down. “It’s just cool to know that all the people that are working with us are as excited about it as we are,” says Josh.
You Me At Six head out on tour in October including a London headline show at The Astoria. We should have a sweepstake on which date the album will be released. 20th? 27th? 13th? Hmmm.
