Yet more thrash on Thrash Hits? It’s just that there’s quite a lot of it about lately, honestly – we’ll get back to haircare regimes, sandwiches and what a wally Jared Leto is soon enough, don’t worry. Havok are a weird one though, in that so far they’ve actually been really very good indeed at channelling the best of the late 80s thrash scene. Unnatural Selection sees them back off the pace considerably from the frenzied Time Is Up, and that’s a move that should set any old thrasher’s alarms ringing.

The current wave of thrash revival bands may have produced its fair share of nostalgic rehashes with a short shelf-lives, but every so often a little gem has cropped up that thoroughly justifies the latest period of resurgence. Havok‘s second record Time Is Up is just such a gnarly little diamond.

What was your highlight of 2008?
J: I think it would have to be the Barcelona Spain show that was part of the Thrashing Like A Maniac show with Gama Bomb and Sworn Amongst. It was called the Thrash em All Festival I believe. The crowd there was just amazing, loads drinking and pitting. It was one of the shows where we felt more at home because we understood everyone there, which was cool.
