I’ve spent a few days listening to The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here on and off and find myself struggling to say anything about if of any real worth other than, “It’s just not as good as Black Gives Way To Blue.” I mean… what more, as the reader and potential purchaser of the album, do you really need?

Vintage Video: Alice In Chains – Nutshell (MTV Unplugged)

Alice In Chains Layne Staley MTV Unplugged Thrash Hits

Ten years ago today, it is generally believed that Layne Staley, frontman with Alice In Chains, died as a result of injecting himself with a mixture of heroin and cocaine. He was juts 34 years old when he died. While Alice In Chains would later reform almost a decade later, it is their early albums with Staley on vocals that placed the band into the hearts of fans around the world. And it’s with one of Staley’s last ever recordings with the band that we’re choosing to remember him by on this, the anniversary of his death.

Live: Alice In Chains @ London Kentish Town HMV Forum – Tuesday, 17 November 2009

All I’d been thinking about since Bonfire Night was seeing Alice In Chains live in London. They’re the grunge band for metallers. They’re the band with some of the most tortured lyrics in the history of rock n’ roll. Even without Layne Staley’s genius, they are Alice In Chains. This is one of my favourite bands of all time. I could not wait.

This is only the fourth studio album from seminal grungers, Alice In Chains. For a band held in such high esteem, you’d expect this to be somewhere closer to double figures but no. Instead, it nods toward the unfinished business following lead singer, Layne Staley’s tragic death in 2002, over seven years after their last album. This is business that the Seattle-based troupe is clearly keen to persevere with.

Ozzfest to have all-star Dimebag Darrell tribute

July 25th, 2008

Dimebag Darrell Ozzfest Thrash Hits

Ozzfest 2008 has released details of this year’s event, which will include a special, all-star tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott and will take place in Dimebag’s home state of Texas on 9 August 2008.

The All-Star Dimebag Tribute will go onstage directly after Dimebag’s brother and former bandmate, Vinnie Paul’s latest band, Hellyeah perform. The collective will play a variety of Pantera songs.

The group will include stars such as Slayer’s Kerry King, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benate, Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, King Diamond and former Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla.

Metal Hammer has reported that Dimebag’s partnet Rita Haney said: “To have the name ‘Dimebag’ still, to this day, unite musicians to pay homage in such a respectful way, is very overwhelming. In Dime’s vision, it’s always been about a damn good time.”

While Gigwise reported on Sharon Osbourne saying: “When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s Ozzfest, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown.”

It does look bloody good, doesn’t it.

Ozzfest will take place on 9 August 2008 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas
