Ahead of the release of their second album, Meir, Norwegian blackened party punk rock ‘n’ rollers, Kvelertak had a day of hanging about in London talking to relative strangers about that album. About five minutes after Gary Wolstenholme emailed us his incredible photos from the Sheffield show of Baroness’ recent UK tour, we got the news that the band had been involved in a horrific bus crash just outside of Bath. And we were torn. We really wanted to show these incredible shots off to the world, but at the same time we didn’t want to seem ghoulish and trying to capitalise on the publicity of the tragedy. Well, since the band are now all safely out of hospital – and given that all of the band’s tour dates for the rest of 2012 have been cancelled – we figured now was the time for us to show you these awesome shots in all their awesome glory.
Yeah, we used “awesome” twice in one sentence. Baroness are that kind of band.

As a genre, stoner rock has become much like a steak left too long on the barbecue because everyone got too drunk and high to tend to it: Overdone, dry, and tasteless.
As a band, Black Tusk are probably a bit too drunk and high to avoid embodying the most prevalent negative stereotypes of their genre: Senseless and forgettable riffing, shit vocals, and nonsensical lyrics.

Prog-sludge crazies, Baroness, might be finishing their UK tour tonight in Brighton, but a few days ago in Sheffield, Thrash Hits snapper Gary Wolstenholme snuck up till he was close enough to make out every hair in John Baizley’s magnificent beard, and got a few pictures of the band tearing The Corporation a new one.
