Dual-headliner tours are always a weird one. No matter what fancy-pants arrangements the bands come to, no matter if they have a stricty-enforced on-off switch for who plays last every night, naturally one band rises above the other. And so it goes with Killswitch Engage and Trivium, who are currently enacting this age-old conflict at venues up and down the length of the UK. Our snapper in the North, Gary Wolstenholme, was on hand in Manchester to shoot both bands when they brought that unspoken conflict to the O2 Academy.

This weekend would’ve been the fifth Hevy Festival…but as you no doubt know by now, the festival was forced to cancel their event this year. They tried to schedule a replacement all-dayer at the Brixton Academy here in London, featuring some of the biggest bands on this year’s (cancelled) bill…but as you also know by now, they had to cancel that too.
It’s not been the best year for Hevy Festival, truth be told.

It’s the first Killswitch Engage w/ Jesse Leach London show ever and their first gig over here since Download Festival last summer and it’s well and truly sold out. It’s more than just a homecoming. Is this the gig of 2013? At least until their appearance at Hevy Festival this summer…
Pre-gig meal: Wahaca. Pork pibil tacos, steak tacos, corn and a celebratory Cinco de Mayo margarita.
Top 6 things we learnt watching Jesse Leach & Killswitch Engage in London…

It’s that time of year again – it’s the return of the Thrash Hits Download Festival splash page for 2012! All of our Download coverage from across the entire weekend will be linked to on this here post, so make sure you bookmark it as it’s all you’re going to need. That means individual band coverage in the form of photos and setlists, as well as reviews of each day’s highlights, every scandalous rumour and dirty bit of gossip that we overhear, and every outrageous photo of muddy debauchery that our photographers can get their lenses on.

Killswitch Engage played their first UK show with Jesse Leech (well, their first since he rejoined, anyway) at Download Festival 2012, and boy, was Jesse hungry for it. Also: kudos for repping a 7 Seconds shirt!
Download Festival confirms Killswitch Engage, Black Veil Brides, NOFX, Opeth, Nightwish and Shinedown for 2012 line-up

Another day, another festival announcement…today it’s Download Festival, who’ve confirmed a further six names for Donington this year. The five entirely fresh names are Killswitch Engage, Black Veil Brides, NOFX, Opeth, and Nightwish, with “official” confirmation also coming through on Shinedown, who had previously leaked their presence on the bill a few weeks back.

Well, he is if the new Killswitch Engage website is anything to go by. That’s where we got that above picture from, after all. It also comes as a surprise to absolutely no-one, given the ever-decreasing levels of denial coming from Mr Leach in recent days. Still, it’ll be interesting to see what direction Killswitch Engage now take with their new…err….old….err current vocalist.

In surely the most astounding piece of Big Company Marketing in 2011, children’s plastic building block manufacturer, LEGO have made a metal song, performed by little LEGO men. Not only is it an awesome idea but it’s a really good song as well.
And yes, that’s a LEGO Ozzy Osbourne. The legalities of Ozzy shoving his hand through a bat are hazy, but I’m sure it’s fine.

Darkness In The Light

Metalcore’s history is littered with inconsistency, none more so than the founding Massachusetts clans. Those responsible for early great albums were struck with the law of diminishing returns, as formulaic steadiness set in, or great songs were never backed up with strength in depth. Unearth, however, continue to buck this trend on album number five.
