It’s the disappointment, mostly. We’ve all fallen into the same trap, fooled into thinking that, because of the names involved, they would make so much more than the sum of their parts. Are we just victims of our own expectations? Or is something else going on with the debut from EscapeTheCult, the supergroup from alumni of A Perfect Circle, Primus, Uneven Structure, Kamlath and King Diamond?

Sunday Slaylist: The 2012 Christmas Sleighlist

December 23rd, 2012

King Diamond Christmas Thrash Hits

It’s here – what will (in all probability) be the final Slaylist of 2012. What with it being so close to Christmas and all, we figured wd’ stick to tradition and wheel out a modified version of the gargantuan Xmas-themed Spotify Slaylist we made a few years ago – this year we’ve tweaked it, edited it, and got it to a neat hour of festive idiocy.

Sunday Slaylist: A crash course in King Diamond

Earlier this week, Bloodstock Open Air got in on the festival-headliner-announcement game by confirming that King Diamond would be making his UK festival debut as their Friday night headliner for 2013. Now while this is frickin’ awesome all of itself, we were talking about it in the pub over the weekend and realised the sheer lack of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate knowledge in  our immediate circle of friends. Dear readers, we’d be lying if we said we were anything less than shocked and ashamed.

Not wanting to be left behind in the big game of announcing-your-2013-headliners-as-early-as-possbile, today Bloodstock Open Air confirmed that King Diamond will be headlining the Friday night of their festival next year. The King join the previously-announced quartet of Anthrax, Fozzy, Firewind and Accept over on the bill over at Catton Hall, which in 2013 takes place on the weekend of 08-11 August. Early Bird Weekend Tickets are on sale now for the bargain price of £100, so if you want to save a few quid for a new Merciful Fate t-shirt in time for next August, now would be a good time to cough up some cash.

Sunday Slaylist: The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Sunday Spotify Slaylist Thrash Hits

If you’re a resident of the UK (and statistically, you probably are), you won’t have been able to escape the furore surrounding the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend. Whether or not you’re hoisting a beer in recognition of the extra Bank Holiday this has given us, or whether you’re sulkily avoiding anywhere and everywhere that’s smothered itself in celebratory bunting, you can’t avoid it. And because of this week’s Sunday Slaylist, you can’t avoid it on Thrash Hits either.

Ozzfest to have all-star Dimebag Darrell tribute

July 25th, 2008

Dimebag Darrell Ozzfest Thrash Hits

Ozzfest 2008 has released details of this year’s event, which will include a special, all-star tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott and will take place in Dimebag’s home state of Texas on 9 August 2008.

The All-Star Dimebag Tribute will go onstage directly after Dimebag’s brother and former bandmate, Vinnie Paul’s latest band, Hellyeah perform. The collective will play a variety of Pantera songs.

The group will include stars such as Slayer’s Kerry King, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benate, Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, King Diamond and former Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla.

Metal Hammer has reported that Dimebag’s partnet Rita Haney said: “To have the name ‘Dimebag’ still, to this day, unite musicians to pay homage in such a respectful way, is very overwhelming. In Dime’s vision, it’s always been about a damn good time.”

While Gigwise reported on Sharon Osbourne saying: “When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s Ozzfest, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown.”

It does look bloody good, doesn’t it.

Ozzfest will take place on 9 August 2008 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas
