November 21st, 2012

With the ‘Twins of Evil’ tour arriving in the UK next week, we’re turning our attention to the cover song that serial cover’ers Marilyn Manson have never released in an official form. And of course, Hugh Platt likes any excuse to waffle on about Manson.

Marilyn Manson 2001 Thrash Hits

Oh Manson. Manson, Manson, Manson. I’ve had some words about you in the past. Next week, I’ll have some more words about your current antics. But for the time being, let’s talk a little bit about your record of cover songs, shall we?

Alice In Chains Layne Staley MTV Unplugged Thrash Hits

Ten years ago today, it is generally believed that Layne Staley, frontman with Alice In Chains, died as a result of injecting himself with a mixture of heroin and cocaine. Slipknot make history whilst getting US #1 album

Slipknot All Hope Is Gone Masks Thrash Hits

Slipknot love getting the headlines and they’ve done it once again by claiming the #1 spot on Billboad Top 200 Chart in the US with All Hope Is Gone, but only after an ultra dramatic recount.

Initially, the album was announced as debuting at #2 with sales of 238,272, just 13 sales behind The Game’s 238,285-selling third album, LAX – the closest margin in SoundScan history.

Roadrunner Records requested an historic recount from SoundScan and the chart positions were reversed with Slipknot winning by 1134 albums. The final recount numbers are 239,516 for All Hope Is Gone and 238,382 for LAX sold during their first week of release. Not bad.

All Hope Is Gone only got to #2 in the UK, beaten by The Verve’s comeback album. That’s probably quite annoying, but Slipknot have been nominated for their first ever MTV Video Music Award for ‘Psychosocial’.
