May 21st, 2013

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

In case you haven’t noticed, WE RELAUNCHED THRASH HITS. This week on the podcast, Raz and Hugh talk through the fancy new changes that we’ve made to the site (we’re pretty proud of it FYI), as well as giving the lowdown on our team-up with Songkick Detour (help us bring American Nightmare, SikTh, and a load of other awesome bands to London!), as well as talking about the only news story that’s mattered over the last week – Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying being arrested and charged with attempting to hire a hitman to murder his estranged wife.

SikTh? American Nightmare? Songkick Detour can bring them to London

May 16th, 2013

detour london vs thrash hits 2013

We saw the power of Songkick Detour back in February when, in conjunction with our big sister, DrownedinSound, Desaparecidos played their first UK show. It was impressive and it was powered by the crowd. They wanted to see Desaparecidos play live in London and they put their money where their mouths were. We want to do the same thing with some bands that we like.

Let’s see if we can get American Nightmare over to the UK. Let’s see if we can show SikTh that people want to see them live.

Live & Photos: Eistnaflug Festival @ Neskaupstaður, Iceland – 12-14 July 2012

August 6th, 2012

You probably reckon you know about all the best metal festivals but you’ve almost certainly never heard of Eistnaflug. No, that wasn’t a sneeze. Vasilis Panagiotopoulos travelled to the east of Iceland to witness the eighth installment of this awesome festival.

Neskaupstaður is a small town built on the fringes of an isolated fjord that lies 700km from Reykjavík. Steep mountains, endless green valleys, persistent fog and inhospitable seashores complete the imposing Icelandic scenery. The 24-hour daylight adds to the location’s mesmerising wilderness. Such an unconventional and extreme destination is home to a fittingly extreme event: Eistnaflug – Iceland’s prime heavy rock and metal festival.

Who is the Best New Band of 2011?

December 19th, 2011

2011 end of year best new band thrash hits

We reckon we’re pretty good at finding new bands. Over the past few years we’ve championed Turbowolf, Bastions, Wolves Like Us and loads more before the rest cottoned on. That’s why you probably want to know what new bands we liked the most in 2011.

Maybe some of them will go on to become your favourite band of 2012. Maybe you already love them and this just reinforces the fact that you’re awesome. (If so, come and join us.) Just give the bands a listen. They’re worth it.

Muck
From: Reykjavik, Iceland
Lazy Equation: Sonic Youth + (Dillinger Escape Plan x Converge)
URL: Facebook // Tumblr // Buy songs

Thrash Hits Verdict:
We can think of no better way than Muck of celebrating our centenary of celebrating new bands. This is the kind of band that you just hope you’ll stumble across in a grotty biker bar in a weird country. We saw these guys last week in a grotty biker bar at Iceland Airwaves 2011 in their hometown of Reykjavik and they blew our frozen cotton socks off. This band has everything: the songs, the attitude, the desire. Every time we reflected upon them doing something awesome (like playing slide guitar with a Macbook) they did something even more awesome (like play ‘Mother’). This band needs to be heard by everybody.
