The slightly clumsy play on words in the title aside, there are few missteps in this second album to spring following the rebirth of NWOBHM legends Hell. Resurrecting a long-lost band is potentially fraught with issues around quality, but their last release laid those sort of fears to rest quite handily and lead to some truly excellent live shows over the last couple of years.

If you’re the kind of metalhead that reacts to that particular end of the metal spectrum – you know, the one draped in leather and fur, that’s unduly fond of Vikings and loves the first four Manowar albums as much as it doe its own kids – the same as you would if your local served you a pint of horse’s piss instead of beer, 3 Inches Of Blood probably aren’t for you. However, if you look at Rob Halford decked out in leather screaming ‘Painkiller‘ and think it’s the most amazing thing in human history, step this way.

Thrash Hits Verdict: 
Is “retro” a dirty word? Are we doing the history of metal a disservice by referring to bands as “traditional” metal? Should we just shut the hell up, and stop trying to pigeonhole every damn band in the world? Isn’t it about time we featured a band in Future Hits that we heard about through genuine word-of-mouth – as in “a band someone we met in a pub told us about”, rather than “someone emailed us a Facebook link”? That’s where a band like Amulet come in. We dropped an email to band’s guitarist, “Heathen” Steven, to ask him some similarly pointed (and similarly dickish) questions.

Aren’t we all getting a bit bored of bands looking back with a sense of nostalgia they aren’t possibly old enough to feel? There’s only so much ironic pastiche/tribute you can take. The complete absence of either sickening nostalgia or knowing parody is why Holy Grail succeed where most fail. They aren’t taking the piss or just having a laugh – they sound like they mean it.
