Top 6: Reasons we’re not (too) sad that Jeff Tuttle has left The Dillinger Escape Plan

August 18th, 2012

Jeff Tuttle from The Dillinger Escape Plan by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

Okay. That blog title is a massive piece of misdirection. When the news came in yesterday that Jeff Tuttle had decided to part ways with The Dillinger Escape Plan, we were really bummed out. We frickin’ love DEP, and we frickin’ love what Tuttle brought to the band. Although he didn’t appear on Ire Works, Tuttle had been in the band since they started touring that release, and his contributions to 2010’s Option Paralysis – which was Thrash Hits’ Album of 2010 – can’t be understated either.

However, rather than despair that a member of our favourite bands has decided to leave, we’re giving this one a positive spin. Which is why we’ve gone and put together….

Six we’re not (too) sad that Jeff Tuttle has left The Dillinger Escape Plan:

Yeah, it’s that tour. The one the US had last year and we were all really jealous about. Oh well. We got it too. Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan released the Thrash Hits Album of the Year of 2011 and 2010 respectively. Red Fang released an album last year but it went largely unnoticed. Shit happens. The good news is that we went to Brixton (and Manchester) to see this tour. Is that good news? It is. It definitely is.

Six things we learnt when we saw Mastodon/TDEP/Red Fang at Brixton

The Dillinger Escape Plan are coming back to London in April – and maybe a whole UK tour to boot

They might’ve only just finished touring the UK in support of Mastodon, but it seems The Dillinger Escape Plan already look set to be making a return to our shores sooner rather than later. We’ve just spied this date – 26 April 2012 – as a scheduled Dillinger Escape Plan show over on The Highbury Garage’s website, even though there’s not been an official announcement anywhere else yet.

Tickets go on sale on 15 February, i.e., on Wednesday. You better believe we’re going to be at the head of queue. We’ll have more dates and details for you when we get ’em. Although thinking about other bands’ album release schedules, it’d make sense (and be a frickin’ KILLER line-up) if this turned out to be a dual-headliner jaunt with either Cancer Bats or Every Time I Die as opposed to just a Groezrock warm-up show….

Mastodon Brent Hinds by Gary Wolstenholme Thrash Hits

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – as far as touring line-ups go, the combination of Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Red Fang has set the bar for 2012. Given that Mastodon put out the Thrash Hits Album of 2011, The Dillinger Escape Plan put out the Thrash Hits album of 2010, and Red Fang are one of our favourite up’n’coming crushers, it’s gonna take one heck of a tour to top this.

The Dillinger Escape Plan release new video and Greg Puciato talks sense about file sharing

Yep, The Dillinger Escape Plan released our favourite album of 2010 with Option Paralysis. Now they’ve made a video for ‘Gold Teeth On A Bum’. Woo hoo!

In other DEP news, singer Greg Puciato wrote 1,752 words about file sharing in response to a Belfast student’s question. You can read some choice quotes down below but we strongly suggest you read Greg’s response in its entirety because he is a clever man who dislikes Jared Leto as much as we do.

For over a decade now, The Dillinger Escape Plan have been synonymous with thoughts of dizzying time signatures and seemingly superfluous technicalities rightly associated with mathcore. However, those who persevered with melted minds duly found comforting interjections of melody and sensitivity that served to soothe the maladies of digesting song after relentless song of ferociously difficult listening.

Ask Dillinger Escape Plan anything you bloody well like

February 10th, 2010

This coming Friday, the mighty Dillinger Escape Plan are playing not one, but two sold-out shows at the Camden Barfly in London. And squashed between the two shows, Thrash Hits will be sticking a video camera in the bands’ collective face and shouting questions at them – questions we want you to provide. Yep, we’ll ask the New Jersey mob anything, anything, your warped little minds can come up with.
