We were talking about Iron Maiden headlining the Saturday evening of Download Festival 2013 and we were all at odds over what the best Maiden album was. Obviously, with 15 (fifteen!) studio albums in their arsenal, there are a lot of different styles to choose from, not even considering the variation in quality. We figured we’d ask our resident Maiden fan what his favourite was. From the era of record shops [read his wicked article on long-gone Soho dive, Shades], Tony Hampton’s a lot older than the rest of us, so he actually remembers (pretty much, anyway) the release of every single Iron Maiden album. Props.
POLL: Finland is exporting a TV show where rock stars invade your house, do some DIY, and fix your miserable lives. Which rock star do you want it to be?

Okay, so last week we gave you some advice about how to spruce up your shabby home – but what if you live in an absolute pit of squalor? What if your wretched hovel is so far gone that even the artwork of Valient Himself won’t sort it out? Well, if a Finnish TV production company gets their way, you might be lucky enough to get a local rock star to come round, smash your place up, then help rebuild it in an altogether snazzier and sharper style.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have heard the new EP from Down. Guess what? Hugh Platt was less than impressed.
Back in January, I wrote a speculative bit of fluff about Down putting out an EP in 2012, rather than the fully fledged album that their fans have been clamouring for since 2007’s Down III – Over The Under. I glibly suggested that Down putting out an EP meant that we’d be getting just the cream of the New Orleans-based supergroup’s capabilities, rather than them just churning out a longer record that would no doubt contain a couple of songs that would only sound good if you’d smoked as much weed as Phil Anselmo.
Except it hasn’t turned out like that, has it?

So Axl Rose refused to acknowledge the accolade of being inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, allowing the rest of band to celebrate with a better singer, but does it really matter? Our friend, Adam made this excellent point:
“People may remember [Marlon] Brando refusing his Oscar, but more remember him for getting really fat and a bit shit…”
Fair. Tell us what you’re going to remember Axl Rose for in the poll below. And obviously, if you think we’ve missed something, call us dicks in a comment below.

We’ve had this debate every so often for… ever. Which is the best Finch album? Is it the 2002 breakthrough debut, What It Is To Burn or is it 2005’s beginning of the end, Say Hello To Sunshine? That’s the question. They’re your only options.
Obviously, it’s entirely subjective because it’s all down to personal preference and this is only being pointed out so whichever sensible person comes along and says it’s all down to personal preference can STFU and GTFO LOL. But that’s the point of a poll – to find out whose opinion is more correct!

Oh internet. Sometimes you get up to some japes, don’t you? Norwegian Airlines are running a ballot where the public can vote on which famous Norwegian they’d like to see painted on the tail fin of one of the airline’s jumbo jets. And the internet, collectively possessing what is in effect the psyche of 14 year-old boy, has managed to get the murdered former Mayhem gutiarist, Øystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous) into the top spots of the poll.

Yesterday, Rolo Tomassi treated us to the first taste of their as-yet-untitled upcoming third studio album, in the form of new single, ‘Old Mystics’. It’s the first new music we’ve heard from the band (as opposed to the previously unreleased demos and the like on Eternal Youth) in nearly two years, so we were pretty damned excited to hear it.

We love the Camden Underworld here at Thrash Hits. The bands are usually good, the sound is great and the beer tastes like Katy Perry’s piss. So when Kylesa came over on their first headline tour here since the release of Spiral Shadow, we thought we’d head down and get our ears blasted.
