Australian psychiatrists study heavy metal fans

GERMANY MUSIC HEAVY METAL FESTIVAL thrash hits

Do you like heavy metal? You’re probably on the verge of trying a drug-induced suicide after drink-driving and having unprotected sex, you depressed delinquent!

That appears to be the message from Australasian Psychiatrists, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

An Australian study has “shown significant associations between heavy metal music and suicide ideation, depression, delinquency and drug-taking”.

An American study showed heavy metal fans “had a higher preoccupation with suicide and higher levels of depression than their peers”.

This has prompted a call for doctors to include musical tastes in their diagnoses.

However, the doctors didn’t single out metallers. French rap fans will be thieves but hip hop fans are ok. Pop music fans are sexually ambiguous and jazz fans are total social misfits. Ouch.

One man, Michael Bowden, head of medical programs at the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry reckons that you just need to treat teenagers with some respect and listen to them.

What do you think?
