Lamb of God by Gobinder Jhitta Birmingham O2 Academy 17 January 2014 Thrash Hits

It’d be fair to say that 2013 is probably a year that Randy Blythe from Lamb of God would like to forget, having spent much of it dealing with his trial and subsequent acquittal for manslaughter of Czech fan of his band, Daniel Nosek. They’ve certainly not wasted any time getting their 2014 off to a running start, hitting Europe for a 14-date extension to their long-running Resolution tour. We sent Gobinder Jhitta down to Birmingham to catch Randy and co.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 019: The New Year Catch-Up

January 15th, 2013

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Well, since Christmas and the New Year are now well and truly out of the way, we figured now was the perfect time to throw the next episode of the Thrash Hits podcast out there for you to digest. This week, Raz and Hugh are talking about the various ins and outs of certain legal cases (Ian Watkins of Lostprophets, Harley Flanagan – formerly – of Cro Mags, and, of course, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God) that have been going on while we were on our Christmas break, as well a a discussion on the nature of making tips and predictions, and even a little bit about what’s going on with Thrash Hits for 2013. HINT: BIG PLANS.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 008: Small But Perfectly Formed

August 2nd, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

It’s a short and (not so) sweet podcast from Raz and Hugh this week, looking at some last minute controversies surrounding Hevy Festival, the consequences of British metal bands moving to major labels, and what the impact will be of Terror deciding to boycott the Czech Republic on their forthcoming European tour in support of Randy Blythe. We might’ve been too busy being drunk and watching the Olympics this last week to prattle on for as long as usual, but that doesn’t stop it degenerating into a discussion regarding the quality of a naked arse pinned to the wall of Raz’s office. What on Earth does that mean? We guess you’re going to have to download the podcast to find out.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 005: The Randy Blythe Situation

July 5th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz is once again absent (his jetsetter lifestyle means he’s off in Berlin to catch Pearl Jam), so this week Hugh is once again joined by Tom Dare, and this week by another Tom from the Thrash Hits writers roster – Tom Doyle. Yes, he’s the Tom Doyle that Lower In Atlantis threatened at headbutt that time. No, he’s not the Tom Doyle who’s a member of Don Broco.

This week’s topics of conversation include recent gigs by Evile, Decapitated and *shels, but mostly we just talk about the Randy Blythe/manslaughter situation that has gotten most of the metal internet up in arms one way or the other over the last 7 days.

Randy Blythe apparently granted bail; still in custody due to banks being closed.

The Randy Blythe manslaughter drama continues – The Gauntlet have posted information, footage and photos from a Czech news site that states that the Lamb of God frontman has been granted bail, but will remain in custody over the weekend while local banks are shut, as obviously neither Blythe nor anyone in the LoG camp carries around $200,000 (the amount set for Blythe’s bail) around as ready cash.

Despite some internet rumours to the contrary, Blesk is reporting that the manslaughter charges haven’t been dropped, and the investigation is still ongoing. For more info, go check out The Gauntlet’s analysis of the latest news, or head on over to Blesk and put your trust in Google Translate.

Blimey. You can read the Czech news report that broke this story after the jump.

Lamb of God appear to have truly made it in the A-League of the metal world. The way you can tell is by the number of people who have either fallen over themselves to froth all over latest album Resolution or taken to the Internet to moan about it. You have to be doing rather well to please/piss off this many people. So who’s right? Where is the line between bullshit and considered opinion (clue: you generally pass this when you open your web browser)? And most importantly, is Resolution any cop?

Before we get the ball rolling it has to be said I quite like a bit of Hatebreed. I can’t say that there is a perfect album end to end, but they sure do know how to make some floor-punching, dick-shrivelling stompers that are always accompanied by chest beating choruses. ‘Straight To Your Face’, ‘Doomsayer’, ‘This Is Now’ or ‘I Will Be Heard’ all result in my car going bat shit crazy with my crew slamming one another on the back seat.  But will this debut solo record from Jamey Jasta prove that there more to the man than a head scarf and a huge gob?
