As a genre, stoner rock has become much like a steak left too long on the barbecue because everyone got too drunk and high to tend to it: Overdone, dry, and tasteless.

As a band, Black Tusk are probably a bit too drunk and high to avoid embodying the most prevalent negative stereotypes of their genre: Senseless and forgettable riffing, shit vocals, and nonsensical lyrics.

It is perhaps fitting that Abysmal Dawn’s third record should be released so close to the anniversary of that seminal first Possessed album. With the release of their second full length, Baroness tread even deeper into the dark waters of prog metal and unleash their own unique style on your stereo.

Possibly one of the best 21st century grindcore bands today, Agoraphobic Nosebleed have unleashed yet another blast of anger fuelled mayhem on the music world. With the use of a drum machine, the Massachusetts bruisers reach new levels of carnage – many tracks are over 1000 BPM, and main man Scott Hull once recorded at 100,000 BPM.
