Johnny Morrow RIP updated Thrash Hits

Yesterday marked the 11th anniversary of the death of Johnny Morrow, vocalist and frontman of Iron Monkey. His death from heart failure  aged just 28 years old shocked the entire UK metal scene. Iron Monkey were arguably one of the most influential underground bands to come out of the UK, and it’s for that reason that this week’s Slaylist is dedicated to Johnny and the works of Iron Monkey.

Clive Burr R.I.P Thrash Hits

Clive Burr, former drummer with heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, died in his sleep earlier this week on Tuesday March 12, 2013. He was 56 years old. Although he was fired from the band in 1982, Bur remained friends with his former bandmates, who were longtime supporters Clive Aid, the charity Burr was a patron of which raised funds and awareness for cancer and multiple sclerosis (of which Burr himself suffered) causes around the world. It’s in recognition of his role in the history of one of the world’s biggest metal fans that we’ve put together this week’s Sunday Slaylist as a tribute to Clive Burr.

As we reported on Tuesday, Hydra Heads Records bossman Aaron Turner announced this week that the label was to effectively close, with the label to transform little more than an administrative arm for the label’s existing catalogue before the year is out. This news was understandably greeted with howls of despair from all corners of the metal world, given the incredible pedigree of artists that Hydra Head has had through its doors over the last two decades.

As you’ll no doubt have heard by now, on Friday 04 May 2012, Adam Yauch – aka MCA – from the Beastie Boys, died after losing his battle against cancer of the parotid salivary gland. He was just 47 years old. To mark this sad occasion, this week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist is dedicated to his memory, by way of a look-back at the Beastie Boys’ pre-hip hop work – their punk rock years.
