Introducing…. Soccer With Rockers 2014: a Fantasy Football nightmare

Thrash Hits BSM 5-a-side 2014 kym ellis. Taken by Kym Ellis - kymellis.com

That’s the Thrash Hits FC team photo taken on Sunday afternoon at the annual BSM 5-a-side football tournament. The important thing is that despite not winning, we definitely didn’t come last.

Anyway, the point is that the Raz-shaped half of the Thrash Hits editorial team loves football. It’s the glue that holds much of British society together, after all and the ubiquitous love often manifests itself on the internet in the form of Fantasy Football. So we made a league. It’s called Serie ARGH.

Architects live at Sheffield Corporation - 14 April 2012 - c/o Gary Wolstenholme/Inventory Photo for Thrash Hits

When Brighton metalcore-ish types, Architects, went on tour across the UK earlier this month, we didn’t just have one photographer covering it. Oh no. We had two. In the first batch of shots we’ve got from the tour, we’re bringing you the snaps taken by the mighty Gary Wolstenholme, from when the tour rolled in to the Sheffield Corporation.

Hevy Festival 2012 Thrash Hits

Hevy Festival have made their second line-up announcement for 2012, adding nineteen more bands to their bill- including the identity of their Sunday night headliner: Descendents. Not only will the legendary punk band be headlining the punk and hardcore fest, but it’ll be the only UK festival show they’ll be playing all year.

Throats 2010 promo photo Thrash Hits

Throats were one of those bands that burned hard and burned fast. In the three of so years of the band’s lifespan, everyone kinda took them for granted. The band had shrugged off the “hipster grind” tag that their less-imaginative critics loved to throw at them, and had started to become a real force all of their own, when in and then in December 2010 they announced in December 2010 that they were splitting up. Which sucked.

Yesterday, Rolo Tomassi treated us to the first taste of their as-yet-untitled upcoming third studio album, in the form of new single, ‘Old Mystics’. It’s the first new music we’ve heard from the band (as opposed to the previously unreleased demos and the like on Eternal Youth) in nearly two years, so we were pretty damned excited to hear it.

Thrash Hits Verdict:
At Hevy Festival we pointed out how “slick and frighteningly young” the “math-pop upstarts” are. An obvious comparison would be to the original female-fronted Yorkshire spazz-core quintet, Rolo Tomassi so we made that as well. It might be time for the slightly more tuneful Marmozets to steal some thunder.

Is there anything better than a Thrash Hits Festival Splash Page? Yeah, loads of things but you won’t find the best online festival coverage on any of them. You’ll find that right here.

All our work from Sonisphere Festival 2011 is going be linked to from this page (eventually), so give it a bookmark or just don’t close it, because it’s all you’re going to need. Individual band coverage (interviews, photos, setlists and some tiny reviews), rumours, drinking games, stage times, dodgy photos of as many sexy ladies in various states of safe-for-work undress as we can legitimately get away with? It’s all here.
