It’s time for another Thrash Hits festival splash page – and this time it’s for Hammerfest. All of our Hammerfest 2013 coverage from the weekend will be linked to on this here post, so make sure you bookmark it as it’s all you’re going to need. Yep. That means individual band coverage (photos, setlists and maybe even some reviews), all the dodgy rumours and awful gossip our man David Keevill overhears, and every single photo of Wales-based debauchery that Gary Wolstenholme and Jenn McCambridge snap will be here.

Day 1 of Hammerfest is traditionally the “quietest” day (i.e., the night with the fewest bands). That didn’t stop our man David Keevill from getting stuck in though….
6 things we learned on Day 1 of Hammerfest V:

Hey! It’s Valentine’s Day? Is that a rubbish enough segue into a Bullet For My Valentine interview? Probably not. Oh well. As regular readers of Thrash Hits know, Bullet For My Valentine are most definitely a band we have opinions (fast forward to 33mins 13 secs…) that sometimes get us in to a bit of trouble with them. So when Nick Hagan emailed us late last year telling us that he had some time interviewing Michael “Padge” Paget from thet band (that’s him lurking behind Matt Tuck above and looking like he might bite your throat out), we said “yeah, okay,” with all the enthusiasm that two-word response implies.
That said, we do wonder what Padge would say to us now after we published Raz’s drunken 6/6 (ahem) review of Temper Temper….

The new EP from ace British metallers Sacred Mother Tongue was released on Monday and they’re playing a one-off gig in London on Monday 10 September 2012. We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away as well as a copy of A Light Shines AND you get to meet the band at the gig. This is a competition.

It’s been a little longer than normal between podcasts, and it’s for one simple reason – we’ve been to so many gigs since the last podcast that we simply haven’t found the time to be in the same room for long enough to record an episode. Handily, that’s the inspiration for the main topic of conversation on this week’s episode – just what is it that makes a gig great?
Did any of the gigs we’ve been too recently – including Faith No More, Pearl Jam, Baroness, Monuments, Kerouac and Sacred Mother Tongue to name but a few – made the grade as “classic” gigs? Raz and Hugh debate this question, as well as going over their all-time favourite shows.
We still want your feedback on this one, so please take a moment to send us your thoughts via email, by posting a comment down below, or by bellowing at us over Facebook or Twitter. And for Satan’s sake, go and subscribe to our podcast over on iTunes.

This week is turning out to be quite a good one as far as free metal shows go – at least if you happen to live in London. Not only have we got Evile’s charity show in aid of the British Lung Foundation at the OBL tomorrow, but Sacred Mother Tongue are also putting on a free show at the Intrepid Fox on Thursday. Get in!

We’ve always been massive fans of British metallers, Sacred Mother Tongue which is why we’re pretty darned pleased to be sponsoring their forthcoming 13-date UK tour this April and May 2011.
