Our analysis of the real (i.e., financial) reasons for the Black Sabbath/Bill Ward split is another article you can file in the Thrash Hits no-one-else-could-publish-this folder. Most websites don’t have the stones to analyse anything deeper than 200 words, and no music magazine was going to seriously tackle this topic – after all, why sacrifice their chances of securing a coveted Black Sabbath cover feature just for the sake of some trouble-making?

Black Sabbath respond to Bill Ward by saying…err…nothing much of anything

May 17th, 2012

Black Sabbath Bill Ward Is Out promo photo Thrash Hits

Well, this another one of those news pieces where the title pretty much says it all. Black Sabbath – i.e., Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler – have released a statement in response to the large statement made by Bill Ward yesterday, when he ruled himself out of the Black Sabbath reunion over contract issues.

And in contrast to Ward’s piece, the statement from the three other founder members of Black Sabbath is…well….remarkably short.

You’ve read the title? Right. That’s the gist of the story. Black Sabbath will no longer be performing any of their previously announced European tour dates, with the exception of Download Festival 2012. In place of the majority of the cancelled shows, an ‘Ozzy & Friends’ gathering (including Geezer Butler, Zakk Wylde, Slash, and other, as-yet-unnanounced special guests) will fill in Black Sabbath’s place. Let’s read between the lines of the Black Sabbath/Bill Ward split, shall we?

February 4th, 2012

If there’s one thing Hugh Platt loves doing, it’s sh*t-stirring. This whole Black Sabbath/Bill Ward situation has seen him dig out a very large spoon.

By now you’ve no doubt have heard that Bill Ward is – at the time of writing at least – no longer going to be taking part in either the recording of the new Black Sabbath album or the corresponding world tour. This situation all kicked off on Thursday, when Bill Ward published a statement, detailing why he might be forced to sit out the Black Sabbath reunion. The three other members of Black Sabbath then seemingly decided to take matters into their own hands and publicly announce they were moving on without Ward.

But what’s really going on? Let’s look between the lines, shall we? You might want to get a cup of tea on the go before I start off though – this is gonna be a long one….

Ozzfest to have all-star Dimebag Darrell tribute

July 25th, 2008

Dimebag Darrell Ozzfest Thrash Hits

Ozzfest 2008 has released details of this year’s event, which will include a special, all-star tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott and will take place in Dimebag’s home state of Texas on 9 August 2008.

The All-Star Dimebag Tribute will go onstage directly after Dimebag’s brother and former bandmate, Vinnie Paul’s latest band, Hellyeah perform. The collective will play a variety of Pantera songs.

The group will include stars such as Slayer’s Kerry King, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Charlie Benate, Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, King Diamond and former Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla.

Metal Hammer has reported that Dimebag’s partnet Rita Haney said: “To have the name ‘Dimebag’ still, to this day, unite musicians to pay homage in such a respectful way, is very overwhelming. In Dime’s vision, it’s always been about a damn good time.”

While Gigwise reported on Sharon Osbourne saying: “When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s Ozzfest, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown.”

It does look bloody good, doesn’t it.

Ozzfest will take place on 9 August 2008 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas
