August 11th, 2013

Reading & Leeds Festival 2013 Thrash Hits

With the August Bank Holiday weekend rapidly approaching, Reading & Leeds Festivals are once again upon us. As with every year, Reading & Leeds have a bit fat dollop of heaviness in among the landfill indie, so for this week’s Sunday Slaylist we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of the hardest and heaviest from their 2013 line-ups.

Sunday Slaylist: Hevy Festival 2013 – what might’ve been…

August 4th, 2013

Hevy 2013 cancelled Thrash Hits

This weekend would’ve been the fifth Hevy Festival…but as you no doubt know by now, the festival was forced to cancel their event this year. They tried to schedule a replacement all-dayer at the Brixton Academy here in London, featuring some of the biggest bands on this year’s (cancelled) bill…but as you also know by now, they had to cancel that too.

It’s not been the best year for Hevy Festival, truth be told.

In just four weeks time, arguably the “most metal” (whatever that means) of the UK summer festival season takes place: Bloodstock Open Air. To get ourselves in the mood for a weekend of wearing denim vests and drinking mead out of horn, we’ve put together a gigantic Sunday Spotify Slaylist, featuring the best of this year’s line-up.

Sunday Slaylist: Burn Out Festival 2013

Burn Out Festival Slaylist Thrash Hits

A few years ago, the UK festival scene kind of imploded. Industry experts said there were just too many events trying to compete for the same slices of pie – there was only so many festivals that punters could afford to go to. Well, the situation has changed a bit since then, with smaller, more localised festivals popping up to fill the void left by the absence of some of major players in the festival circuit.

Step forward Burn Out Festival.

June 30th, 2013

We’re not at Ghostfest 2013. It started yesterday. It’s happening even more today. We were going to go and write a massive sarcastic article about the m0shbros and m0shwags and all that, but then then car we were going to hustle up there failed its MOT and the floor we were going to crash on got flooded by a broken washing machine, and we’re too cheap to buy a train ticket and book a hotel room.

It’s not going to stop us enjoying the line-up this weekend though, even if it’s just through our Sunday Spotify Slaylist.

Sunday Slaylist: Johnny Morrow and Iron Monkey – gone but not forgotten

June 23rd, 2013

Johnny Morrow RIP updated Thrash Hits

Yesterday marked the 11th anniversary of the death of Johnny Morrow, vocalist and frontman of Iron Monkey. His death from heart failure  aged just 28 years old shocked the entire UK metal scene. Iron Monkey were arguably one of the most influential underground bands to come out of the UK, and it’s for that reason that this week’s Slaylist is dedicated to Johnny and the works of Iron Monkey.

Sunday Slaylist: The Headliners of Download Festival 2013

Download Festival 2013 main stage headliners Thrash Hits

In last week’s Sunday Slaylist we gave the whole festival line-up a good going over, but this week we’re turning our attention to the festival’s big guns: the main stage headliners. We haven’t just made one Slaylist this week – oh no – we’ve gone and made three, one for Slipknot, one for Iron Maiden, and one for Rammstein.

Sunday Slaylist: Happy birthday, Christian Älvestam

April 14th, 2013

Today is the 37th birthday of Christian Älvestam. What’s that? You don’t recognise the name of the vocalist of more than a dozen metal bands? Who’s done guest vocal spots for everyone from Bloodbath to Demon Hunter? The former frontman of Scar Symmetry? No? Well, in that case, this week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist is going to be something of an education for you.
