Thrash Hits verdict: As with pretty much all new bands, they formed from the ashes of a couple of bands from within the same local scene and Shrine did just that. With drummer, Liam Kearley and bassist, Andrew Gosden putting the band together with Joe Gosney, guitarist and today’s interview subject, they started putting music together. When Will Gardner’s band, Lithurgy parted ways, he added vocals. The result is a proggy, math riff-oriented mix of rock and metal that knows how long to linger on the melodies and when to descend into darker, sludgier ways. They’re releasing a new EP on 07 April 2014 but we’re streaming it below. Listen to it.

Thrash Hits verdict: These five youngsters take none of the black metal influences from their hometown. Clearly a product of the modern age, they’ve learnt their music from the internet. They sound like Bring Me The Horizon, Killswitch Engage, The Devil Wears Prada. Filled with all sorts of minor harmonics and arpeggios, it’s #m0sh or screamo or whatever you want to call it and it’s pretty good. We speak to singer Joakim Vindenes to get his take.

If the name No Omega sounds familiar, good – the Swedes were no.78 in our perpetual Future Hits series last year. Well, No Omega released their debut full lenghth, Metropolis, earlier this year, and have also just put it out on sexy limited-edition vinyl as part of a three-label release deal c/o Monument, Get This Right, and Thirty Days Of Night. You want to hear it, right?

We first started banging on about 7 Horns 7 Eyes over a year ago, when their brand of prog-inclined-but-still-moodily-crushing metal caught our attention with sufficient force for us to violently thrust our Future Hits column in their direction. So when the chaps over at Basick Records dropped us a line and asked if we’d like to host a European-exclusive (insofar as anything on the internet is “exclusive”, these days) stream of their debut album, Throes of Absolution, the weekend before it even goes on sale, we…well, you can guess the rest, can’t you? Why are you still reading this? Click that [Read More] link now and go and listen to it!

We’re a big fan of London nu-nu-grungers, Japanese Voyeurs. When they played our show in January, they covered Nine Inch Nails classic, ‘Closer’. They have also recorded it. Sadly, we reckon the Oscar-winning pile of awesome that is Trent Reznor won’t let JVs release it. Luckily, we’ve got our hands on it, so you can listen to it.

It’s crappy news but drummer Mike ‘Ratboy’ Novak has left Every Time I Die ahead of the Buffalo hardcore crew releasing their fifth studio album, New Junk Aesthetic on 14 September 2009. We can’t wait for it.
