Take a good look at the artwork for Gnarwolves’ first full-length record (click the Read More tag below, yeah?). If you’ve seen a worse album cover this year then please let me know. A mountain of skateboards, a garish shade of green and a font that could’ve been lifted from a Goosebumps novel; it’s pretty much exactly what your parents picture when they think of punk. But as bad as it may be, it’s a fitting representation of the Gnarwolves circus, which has probably rolled into your town at some point over the past of couple of years.

Every band wants to class themselves as something fresh, unique and exciting. However despite many claiming this nine out of ten times your average band are going to be another metalcore or pop-punk shaped piece of conveyor belt crap dropped in front of us for mass consummation. But when Let’s Talk Daggers claim they “make music that doesn’t fit into any particular genre”, they may be one of the few bands that can genuinely back up such bold claims.

Although GnarwolvesFun Club tape has been doing the rounds for a few months now, the first introduction to the Brighton band for many will have been via the endearingly shoddy video for the excellent ‘History Is Bunk’. Presumably filmed on an iPhone and set in the confines of a living room, the video features all three members of the band (who don’t even have the decency to remove their hats) gurning into the camera, lip-synching the lyrics and swinging bottles of Stella in the air.

Future Hits 121: Gnarwolves

Thrash Hits verdict: Gnarwolves are one of those bands we’ve been eyeing them up for a Future Hits for a while now – we kept getting tipped to them from trusted sources all over the place. We  finally got to see them strut their stuff when we caught them opening the bill at Kerouac’s final show, and yep, our sources were bang on the money. If you’ve got even the slightest inkling for some new punk without an ounce of pretension, Gnarwolves are the band you’re looking for. To that end, we’ve got a review of the band’s CRU EP coming up later this week, but for the time being, here’s what we learned when we caught up with Max, their drummer.

Kerouac's Final Show by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

Last weekend Kerouac played their final show ever. It was one of the best shows we can remember going to. We told you as much when we reviewed it. Now, statistically you probably weren’t there, but you can still make sure you show your appreciation for one of the best bands that’s broken up this year by buying their entire discography on sweet, sexy vinyl.

Kerouac's Final Show by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

Oh man. It wasn’t a tough decision to head down to the Old Blue Last for Kerouac’s final show, but it sure as Hell was a difficult proposition to review it afterwards and convey even a fraction of how it felt on the night. Hugh Platt handles the words; Ben Gibson is our man with the camera.

Six things we learned when we saw Kerouac’s last EVER show:

Sunday Slaylist: Adios, Kerouac….

Next Saturday, one of our favourite British bands of the last few years, Kerouac, will be playing their final live show. When they announced their decision to split back in April, we went and drew a big red circle around 07 July on our calendars, as there’s no way in Hell that we’re going to not be there, screaming till our lungs hurt, and giving the band the send off they so richly deserve. But until then, we figured the best use of this week’s Sunday Slaylist was to showcase just why we rate this band so highly.

So Kerouac have announced they’re splitting up. Which sucks.

On Thursday, just when we were gearing up for a four day weekend of sitting in the park and drinking cider, Kerouac decided to announce that they were splitting up. While this news is terrible, we’re kinda glad we didn’t hear it 48 hours ago, as the feelings of sadness and disappointment this news has brought about in us would surely have soured the whole of our Easter holiday, rather than just half of it.

Thankfully, however, the band have given us a sole ray of sunshine to get us out of this black mood, by confirming one final London show before they finally call it quits.

Lets Talk Daggers

Who are the most underrated band in the UK? It’s a hard question isn’t it and one to which everyone will have their own answers (hell, why not send us your suggestions, one of you might even be right). Well, with their new EP, Winter, Eastbourne power trio Let’s Talk Daggers are throwing their hat into the ring for the crown of “best band you should’ve heard but ain’t”. This is, after all, a sparky, chaotic and genuinely diverse little record which takes the tired cliché ‘we try and take aspects from all our influences’ and actually, y’know, does it.

For those who’ve waited patiently as #UKSWELL has cluttered their Twitter feed and cropped up on ironic t-shirt designs – biding their time until the day comes when there’s a British band genuinely worth getting excited about, The Long Haul may well be the answer you’ve been looking for.
