The Thrash Hits Podcast 007: Hevy Festival 2012 Preview

July 25th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

This week’s podcast has Tom Doyle joinging Hugh back in the Thrash Hits studio, and this week they’re taking a long hard look at the line-up for Hevy Festival 2012. As the UK’s up-and-coming hardcore, punk and rock festival prepares for its fourth year, we’re looking at the headliners, our top picks from lower down the bill, the unusual layout for this year’s festival, as well as baselessly speculating on the potential this young festival upstart has for the future. Oh, and mouthing off about a couple of bands. Y’know – the usual.

Usually when a someone quits a band, more often than not they do so not on the best of terms with their former bandmates. Obviously there are exceptions to this (after all, sometimes people just want to quit the music business altogether to spend time with their family), but if someone quits to start another band…well…you only have to look at Max Cavalera and Andreas Kisser to see that things do not normally end well in these situations.

Not so Josh Scogin and the guys in Norma Jean though. Not only does Scogin still get on with his former bandmates (well, the handful of them who are in Norma Jean’s current touring line-up), but they get on well enough for Norma Jean to bring The Chariot, the band Scogin quit NJ to form, out on their European tour with them. Awww. Isn’t friendship a wonderful thing?

Interview: Josh Scogin of The Chariot

February 9th, 2011

After releasing one of our favourite records of 2010, The Chariot are returning to the UK to play some more shows. It would be silly not to have a chat their amazing singer, Josh Scogin about stuff and things. Right?

Atlanta has born quite an array of strong heavy acts over the last decade, what’s in the water?
I think the answer is in the Coke. After all that is where it was all invented and all.

Album: The Chariot – Long Live

November 15th, 2010

The Chariot
Long Live
Good Fight Music
22 November 2010

By Mike Strata

It’s no coincidence that the cover art for The Chariot’s latest slab of furious dissonance looks more like something one would expect from a hardcore band than a band that is routinely (and quite unflatteringly) labelled as metalcore. The Chariot has always produced DIY, rootsy, frighteningly honest music, and whilst the band might share little in common sonically with bands like Bane and Have Heart, their ethos and aesthetic are similar. From the organic recording of their albums to their ferocious, out of control live shows, for The Chariot it’s all about keeping it real.
