This week we’re turning over the Sunday Slaylist to something a little different – we want you to go buy something. On Monday 18 February, Pat Egan, Relapses Records’ Director of Retail Sales, died following a the result of complications with a case of pneumonia. To raise money for Pat’s daughter’s college fund, the folks over at Relapse have gone and put together a compilation of 20 of the finest bands ever to have worked with the label – and we think it’d be a damn fine gesture if a few of our readers joined us in buying it, in recognition of the awesome music Pat helped bring us over the years, as well as to help out the family of a fellow metal fan when they need it most.

FREE STUFF: Relapse Records have posted loads of their back catalogue up for online streaming

Relapse Records have gone and posted an enormous chunk of their back catalogue online via their official Bandcamp page, where you can stream the whole damn lot FOR FREE. Now despite some reporting to the contrary, it’s not their entire back catalogue (or at least, it isn’t yet), but it is a fair old part of it. Even so, it still means that you can listen to over 100 releases by Relapse, including records by Death, Pig Destroyer, Rotten Sound, Red Fang, Toxic Holocaust, and a whole lot more besides. The only real omissions from Relapse’s Bandcamp profile are some of the bands that used to be signed to the label but aren’t anymore – for those acts, which include Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan among their number – Relapse have posted single sample songs from the albums in question. We don’t know why you’d moan about this though – it’s still more free and legal music for you to stream.

Obviously Relapse are hoping you’ll reward them for their online generosity by shelling out for a release or two – such as Baroness’ forthcoming Yellow & Green album – and why wouldn’t you? Remember kids, whether you’re a renegade who’d torrent his own grandmother given the chance, or if you’re the kind of person who’ll only listen to vinyl that you preferably bought in an actual real-world record store, it’s important that you support the bands you love. Because if you don’t, they might not be able to afford to keep making that music you enjoy so much.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to order some Brutal Truth albums at Relapse’s online store.
