Steel Panther. Lots of people loved them and lots of people just didn’t like them. It could never be a Marmite thing with these guys because they’re better than the 80s glam metallers they’re aping. Feel The Steel was a wonderfully refreshing collection of cock rock anthems sculpted and moulded over years and years. Balls Out is the LA spandex fans’ second collection of cock rock anthems but this one’s only taken two years.

It always rings alarm bells when ageing bands that have struggled with recent form return with a promise to recreate to their “classic sound” after a long hiatus. More often than not, it backfires spectacularly and that possibility hung like a murky cloud over Sonic Boom from the very moment Paul Stanley blurted out that it was their “best record in 30 years”.

Some have given us all they could 10 or so years ago and then faded away in obscurity, but some have kept rocking for the past 30 years; Def Leppard are one of those bands. Having played to millions of fans worldwide, Def Leppard are widely regarded as one of the best New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands.
