Eclecticism – it’s great, isn’t it? Well in theory it is, however more often than not those whacky boundary pushing buggers are not very good. The kind of people who claim to like iwrestledabearonce are often just try hard musos out to impress each other. If you really want to get people’s attention, why not just make outlandish claims about the size of your genitals? It’ll get you plenty of attention and also free up your time to listen to music that doesn’t suck.

Interview: “They also cut out a live snake’s heart and ate it while it was still beating” – The Ocean on tour in Asia

The Ocean 2013 promo photo Thrash Hits

Back in April, The Ocean released their latest concept album, Pelagial, and pretty much ever since they’ve been off all over the world tour. We sent Tom Gibbons down to check out the Hong Kong show of the Asian leg of their world tour last month, and got him to sit down with The Ocean guitarist Robin Staps afterwards for a Tsing Tao and a chat.

Cod Sperm Sacs and BabyMetal: Adam Graham from FACT is our man in Japan

August 5th, 2013

Here are two entirely unrelated pieces of information. Our developer, Will, went to Japan earlier this year and brought back a book of photos of women licking doorknobs. Our friend, Adam Graham, plays in the band FACT as the “token white guy” (his words, not ours). What’s our framework for this? Well, Japan can be strange, and we’ve got a man right in the middle of it. BRING ON THE GUEST COLUMN.

FACT BabyMetal Cod Sperm Sacs Thrash Hits

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first instalment of what may or may not become a semi-regular column about the weird world of metal in Japan, popping up unexpectedly amongst the hallowed electronic pages of Thrash Hits, like cod sperm sacs amidst an otherwise harmless array of bar snacks (this happened). I only hope that revisiting this column at your leisure proves to be a less violently gut-wrenching experience for you than revisiting said sperm sacs was for me, mere hours after originally consuming them.

Future Hits 123: Nately’s Whore’s Kid Sister

Nately’s Whore’s Kid Sister
From: Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.
Lazy equation: Narrows (at their noisiest) + Mike Patton (at his most stand-offish) x a disappointed howl at everything, ever.
URL: Facebook // Soundcloud // Bandcamp

Thrash Hits verdict: We first heard Nately’s Whore’s Kid Sister back at the end of November, when they emailed us about their debut EP, Ribs. And like the idiots we are, we didn’t really listen to it until we were hungover as Hell on New Year’s Day. That was probably the wrong time for us to listen to their simultaneously eerie, oppressive, and altogether uncomfortable mindslap of sounf for the first time. Even so, we’re still glad we didn’t go and watch this video they made for ‘I Will Never Feel This Love’ as our introduction to the band. Bloody hell, that would’ve ended us. Anyway, we finally got round to sending them an email the other week, and they sent us back some short, sharp responses.

Nick Schendzielos Job For A Cowboy Cephalic Carnage Thrash Hits

It’s Friday night, and you’ve got to ask yourself one question – why wouldn’t you want to watch a video of Job For A Cowboy and Cephalic Carnage’s bass player, Nick Schendzielos, pretending to be in a jungle and knocking out some solo funk jams on his bass?

You’re at home on a Friday night. What else you gonna do?
