Since Devin Townsend returned to music four years ago, we’ve seen nearly all sides of his diverse output reimagined and revitalised under his “Devin Townsend Project” moniker. All except one that is – Ziltoid The Omniscient, titular star of Townsend’s 2007 record and the musician’s malevolent alien alter-ego. Seven years on, we finally have Z2 – the spiritual follow-up to ZTO’s screed on creativity and caffeine addiction – but with a difference this time.

There will be Steve Vai. There will be Strapping Young Lad. And, of course, there will be Ziltoid The Omniscient. For one night only, Devin Townsend is bringing The Retinal Circus to London. Ruth Booth headed to the Roundhouse to watch this strange rebirth through a giant green alien vagina.

DVD: Devin Townsend Project – By A Thread – Live In London 2011

Devin Townsend plays Addicted Thrash Hits

In November 2011, Devin Townsend (and friends) came to London to treat fans of the Devin Townsend Project’s four album concept to the whole shebang. by Andy Parker

The release of The Audio Injected Soul saw Denmark’s Mnemic receive serious acclaim from the metal world. Released in 2004, for many it was the teat desperately needed since the demise of the industrial nipple that was Fear Factory. Similar characteristics appeared and with single ‘Deathbox’ reaching charts worldwide the band quickly became a hot property.
